Cruising Information

Cruising both solo and cruising in company with fellow members has been a very long and strong tradition at the Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron. Most of the definitive books and cruising aids for South Australian waters have indeed been written by our very own, very experienced and knowlegable club members.

These Cruising web pages are to give you some information regarding the club facilities that are available to assist you in your cruising adventures.

Another source of information is in the RSAYS “Year Book”

Club Maintained Moorings

The RSAYS currently has eleven (11) moorings at

  • Edithburgh (3),

  • Stansbury (Oyster Bay) (3) ,

  • Port Vincent, (2)

  • Black Point (3).

Moorings are available on a first come, first serve basis and use is at the boat owner’s risk.

The moorings are not for long term use (over 7 days) and the vessel must be in active use
Members should be aware that these moorings are for use only at the discretion and risk of the individual .

  • Moorings are available on a first come first served basis and use is at the boat owner’s risk.

  • Rafting is not permitted under any circumstances.

  • Unregistered vessels and those without full insurance are strictly prohibited.

  • The skipper must hold a valid and current boat licence.

  • Vessels that are too heavy or too large to use the RSAYS slip should not be using these moorings.

The moorings are generally anchored with three heavy steel or concrete filled tyres.
The steel chains are between 8m and 12m long.
The mooring lines are 14m to 15 long made from 32mm “Supertech rope”
We expect our ongoing maintenance program will see these specifications standardised.
Depending on the water depth you are looking at a conservative radius of  30 meter” at each mooring.

Any damage to any of these moorings must be reported to the Squadron Office as soon as practicable.

These moorings are inspected and maintained on a yearly basis by RSAYS contractors.
